Unhappy 420SE Fuel problem

Car normally runs a treat with no problems. Would not start one morning- briefly fired then died and then no fire at all ; sounds like a fuel problem. Good spark. Would a fuel pump relay fault normally show itself in normal driving before failing in this way? I'm reluctant to buy a new one if I'm not sure!

Many thanks

You can remove the fuel pump relay & bridge terminals 30 & 87 on the connector to see if the fuel pumps will run, and if the engine will start. THAT is only for testing NOT a permanent fix!!

Thumbs down

Thanks for the tip- I have in the meantime sourced a second-hand relay. Neither this, or bridging the relevant terminals resulted in any fuel supply. I'm now thinking the fuel pump is shot and will check to see if I have a positive supply with ignition on before replacing it. Hopefully this will cure it, but if you can think of anything else I'd be grateful to hear!

Many thanks
