I love my car

I absolutly love my 1991 300E.. it really is something amazing...
so quiet, peppy and comfortable.. love it love it love it...

Funny story that all of you will love...

On the highway today, and im taking a double laned offramp,, and this dodge stratus with oversized chrome rims is in the next lane.. as he pulls on the side of me i gave him the "what" look... he continues to pull ahead of me...

As we merge onto route 95 he floors it like he is going to lose me... Stupid ghetto kid doesnt realize Mercedes were designed for driving highways.. So he gets to about 90, and i floor it.. As im about to pass him i square off with him give him my "your a fool" grin, then i continue on my way as if im walking past him, lol, and his motor was whining like a child... HAHAHA.. i think thats the last time he will attempt a shot at a Mercedes.. though not a victory that is anything to be proud of i just thought it would be funny to tell you all how stupid some people really are..

In the context in which i was referring, "Ghetto Kid" - someone who thinks that putting chrome rims and an aftermarket radio in his car will add 200HP to their 6 cylinder engine so they challenge anything thats willing

I really love my car too, however, I prefer to show my affection for my vehicle by not racing and excessively speeding on public highways while other vehicles are present.

You don't need to "show him who's boss", but good job. What he doesn't realize is that his 9" X 20" rims slow his car down at higher speeds.

I once had a brand new (2002 at the time)Chevy 1500 Z71 LT try to race my SDL. I left him in the dust. He was so angry at me....He deserved it, as he was going to cut me out(why do I feel like Clark W. Griswald in Christmas Vacation? Hmmm...).

When he caught up to me, he rode my tailpipe. So, being a diesel, I urged my SDL to blow a big fart right in his windshield. He passed me on the left and gave me the finger. I waved politely.

Still, having a Benz is being able to cruise effortlessly, quietly, comfortably, and to have fun doing it all day. I find myself after 500 mile drives wanting to drive more.

Yes, long drives in a benz really is charming,,, to be able to get out of a benz after 3 straight hours of driving and not be stiff is a wonder in intself

How do you know other vehicles were present or that the poster was, as you say "excessively speeding"? The poster did not specify the traffic conditions in his post. Although you might not ever exceed 55MPH in your MB, there are those of us who drive them as they were intended to be driven. It's(still) a free country and to each his own. Just my opinion...

My theory is that the reason why Mercedes over in Europe last longer is because their whole life they are driven the way they were designed.. Not limited to pathetic US laws... Now i agree some people shouldnt be driving above 65mph,, some shouldnt even be on the road... But for those of us who are very cautious drivers, and have a car capable of safe travel at higher speeds i believe that we should be allowed to take on long stretches of roads to bring our Benz's up to a fairly quick speed without having to worry about gramma's on the road. or possible ticket ,,,, We need an Autobahn in the USA damnit!!
Going to the track to see what your Benz can do is not exciting to me..

Totally safe up to 110 mph

I feel totally safe and in control, up to about 110 mph. My only fear is that I might get a ticket for speeding and that is why I USUALLY stay within 10 mph of the posted limit. It would be nice to be able to cruise legally at higher speeds when traffic conditions allow. Early morning runs at 100 mph would be great. Even though I have a Benz, at 120 mph I think the car does start to float a bit and I don’t feel nearly as confident. I think most other cars only feel good to about 80 or 90 mph.

You feel you love them too much, or you are just too stupid to know any better.

Sorry, but IMHO that was dumb...

at the worst, you could be picking full-metal-jackets out of your bodywork or your sad self...and at the best, you abused your machine (which you say you love).

Last i checked, bringing a mercedes benz up to 100 MPH on an open highway was not abusing it.. remember im not driving a mitsubishi... its not like i downshifted at 80 MPH and wound out my car for any length of time. And i do love my car, and my car gets the best of care. Whats the point of owning a car designed for the highway if your not going to drive it the way it was suppose to be driven, HIGHWAY SPEEDS.

Eisenhower seriously considered an autobahn after seeing it first hand in '44-45. It proved to be invaluable when the allies pursued the Germans across country, and supply trucks could keep up with allied troops.

I agree with Evan

What's the point of owning a Benz if you're AFRAID of CRUSHING an occasional would be opponent driving a "Benz Wannabe"?......I'm not paying all of this money just to look at the damned thing!!!!.........Let's BE HONEST (just for a minute, ok?)....Benz owners LOVE the prestige that comes along with owning a nice Benz, they are CHICK Magnets (though, I am happily married and ONLY know about this in theory)...and NOBODY here can tell me that, at the very least, there hasn't been an occasion where you have FULLY ENJOYED throttling that thing into the stratosphere...........................Get Real!
