OFF TOPIC - Anyone got a connection for computer equipment
Dear fellow MBers -
Can anyone help a poor doctoral candidate with the purchase of a new computer? - No im not asking for money, but rather if anyone has any connections or sources for getting parts cheap. Im trying to narrow down what I want, but i think im gonna go with the AMD athlon - 1.2ghz with the 266 fsb seems about the best price point. Anyway - not to ramble - if you can help out, I'd really appreciate it. You can reach me at gja@optonline.net directly, or reply here, whatever is more convienient for you- Best Wishes and take care, George Androulakis |

Your best bet is to look at the "hot deals" forum at <www.anandtech.com>. Most of the "techies" there swear by www.newegg.com Great service and prices.

Check out the auctions for dot coms that have gone belly up. Their very new stuff is going for a song, at least here in Silicon Valley.

whatever you do, use www.resellerratings.com to read what people have experienced with online computer places.
I have used www.buy.com tens of times without incident. I have also used www.mwave.com and have not been able to beat their prices and service anywhere. When you build, go for the Asus motherboard. I haven't heard one issue with them and peripheral stuff. I had some trouble with my ABIT KT7A-RAID board and SB Live!, and ethernet card, and my HP printer. |

Hi George:
Try Tiger Direct. I have had good luck with them in the past. They are a very large mail order outfit. Thier address is www.tigerdirect.com They have some wonderful deals at times. Now is a good time to purchase, memory prices are really low. Throw a lot of memory at it and it will run better. Aloha, Eric
