is my water pump original or has it been replaced?
Is there any way to tell if my water pump was ever replaced. Car has 176,000 miles.

Probably not unless you have records, but it would be quite common for the pump to go that far or farther.

I hopped there was a way to determine oem from a replacement or a rebuilt pump. thanks for the info.

Genuine MB pump will have the MB star on it, aftermarket pump won't. No core credit on aftermarket pumps, BTDT.

Grab the pully and check for play in the bearings, if you find none it's probably fine. (I'm not sure where it is on the 420)
