For the past 2 years my girlfriend has *****ed and moaned about my rather uncomfortable passenger seat. Although I have been aware of it's saggy nature for more than five years, I have neglected to take care of it since I generally drive while in the other seat. Today, I felt like looking into it and this is what I found. On the drivers side there are what seem to be "Nerf" cylinders inside of the springs at the front left and right of the seat bottom. On the passenger side the springs are empty. The front of the passenger seat (just before your knee) pretty much collapses when one sits down, while the driver's side offers good support. Are these Nerf tubes supposed to be there or were they a DIY fix for bad springs on the driver's side. What's the deal? Please help or I will soon be single and lonely. The car, by the way is a 1987 560SEL.

Mercedes makes a "nerf" cylinder to be retrofitted into the coil springs in the seat frame. I don't have the part #, but may have it at home. I'll look tonight. I have put them in my seat and they help. They are multi colored compressed foam in a "camoflage" pattern (kinda blackish, brownish and greenish/tan). If yours are all one color, in a "neon" hue, then someone used a section of pool "noodle" in there, which, I understand, works well.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try to get under there to see if they are MB or pool noodle...not that it matters, I suppose. Any luck locating the part #?

My records on it are not great, so I THINK this is it.

126 914 22 15 foam seat spring coil pad.

The dealer can run the # for you and verify. It was a special order part and not grossly overpriced as I recall.

If it were my car I would at least replace the lower seat pad and seriously consider replacing the seat bottom spring frame. I have done this and the difference is incredible. The "nerfs" help but are not he answer to making the seat comfortable again.

You're right, and thiat is the ultimate goal, but right now there are other fixes that would be a better use of my money (especially considering that I drive alone 90% of the time).
Sometime next year I hope to rebuild or replace all of the seats, but for now $20.00 worth of Nerf will do the trick. Besides, I can't have the passenger seat in better shape than the one I use, can i?
