easy/dumb question

Can't for the life of me, figure out how to change the 3rd brakelight in my 1993 W124. I've tried accessing it from the trunk, pulling the two halves apart, and looking for screws/clips but can't find anything.

Also, is there a way to remove the body of the light also, the rubber seal that allows it to rest against the rear window has become bunched up in one corner.

Thanks in advance.

Basically 3 parts to the light.

Cover housing (front): *carefully* prise (Brit term I love from my Brit Haynes manual) the tab on either side to release cover.

Main body: there are 2 black spring loaded tabs on each side of the bulb about 3/8" (~10mm for the metric crowd) wide. Moving them will allow removing the main body from

The base: which is attached to the rear parcel (hat) shelf from the bottom. Shouldn't need to remove.

Be careful... all that plastic gets very brittle with age sitting there in the sun.

Does that help?

Pops, the rear shelf brake light assembly comes apart from inside the car. As JoeR says carefully pry the tabs on either side of the colored housing and slide off. Once you've got that done the rest is pretty obvious. You will be able to remove and straighten the rubber seal ... clean that section of the rear window while it's accessible. Be sure to use the proper wattage replacement lamp ... Osram Sylvania as I recall.

Thank you both for your replies. I had a feeling that the tabs had something to do with it, but I was very wary to prise them lest they break off.

Thanks again.
