fuel injector cleaner in a carburetted engine!!!!

Hello,

I was wondering if using a fuel injector cleaner in a car that has a carburettor would help in cleaning the carburettor jets, etc?

Thank you.

Carburetors are contrary contraptions. If one is giving trouble the only way to correct it is to disassemble it, find the bad subsystem and correct it.

For most people that will attempt carburetor repair, they don't understand how they work, so they simply "put a kit in it." Occasionally that, in itself, will work. If the person "putting in the kit" actually understands a carburetor it will almost always work.

Running solvent (inector cleaner) through a carburetor probably doesn't correct anything more often than once in a hundred tries.

The reason that injector cleaner works on injectors is that they are small nozzles that must atomize the fuel by spraying a mist into the air stream. When the injector gets gunked it dribbles instead, thus putting drops instead of mist in the airstream.

The portion of the carburetor that does this same thing is a larger hole and does not get gunked up as often as an injector, although it does happen.

Good luck,
