SRS Warning Light: 1994 S Class sedan

Hi:
I just purchased a used 1994 S Class sedan in great condition with 118K miles. I noticed that the SRS warning light comes on with start up and then stays lite for about 2 minutes and then goes off. The owners manual says it should come on and then turn off within 4 seconds. The seller tells me that the SRS light has been staying on for about 1 minute or so for the past year. I also noticed that the seatbelt red light is lite up for maybe 30 seconds despite being buckled in. What does the SRS light staying on as described signify? airbags? seatbelt electrical connection?

Do the airbags need to be recertified or recharged on a certain schedule? If so, how expensive would this be?

not sure why its doing that. maybe just old.
as long as it goes off and stays off you should be ok.
no, the airbags do not have to be replaced or serviced.
mb just came out and extended the life of them again
so don't worry about that.

Get fault codes pulled. Could be a number of things. One thing that comes to mind is a faulty passenger seat occupancy sensor.

The seat belt buckles have internal switches which report to the SRS control module. In my experience, they're the most common parts to fail.

The SRS light staying on for so long is definitely something to look at, not normal.

About the seatbelt "buckle-up" warning light, don't worry, it is normal for the light to come up ALWAYS even if all seat belts are properly fastened.
