I was wondering if anyone knows how to remove the storage net posket behind the seat. Mine is in need of renewal but the frame that holds the net is screwed from the inside of the seat. Thanks for any help.

I took the back of the seat off of my 190e to take the armrest off (it was in my way). There are two long sheet metal screws on the bottom of the back facing down. Once the back is off the frame holding the net is unscrewed from the inside like you said. My net was loose so while I had it off I tightened it by pulling the top string tighter and moved the retaining clip over. Putting the sheet metal screws back in is a little tricky, you have to try and feel for the holes in the sheet metal of the seat through the insulation. I thought I had the first time I put it back on and had the back drop off in my wifes lap resulting in a questioning of my abilities.

The outcome was relatively painless, she was more suprised than anything. She took my explanation and apology and left it at that. I told her I had taken it off months before and I was just as suprised it hadn't fallen off sooner. It happened just when she got in the car so I just threw it in the trunk. Lately she's been riding in the back seat with my six year old daughter to entertain her and give stereo back seat driving, she is aprenticing my daughter in the art of back seat driving.

I found two screws at the bottom of the seat back like you said, but even though I took them off the back would still not separate. I tried to slide it down really hard but it would not move. Is it supposed to slide down after the screws are removed or does it come off in some other way?

Yes it does slide down, and it will fall down if you don't get the screws in right. Try wiggling it side to side and maybe poking around the top and sides to loosen it, it's probably just stuck.

The back panels of the W201 190 and the W124 300E are not equal! The back panel of the W201 seat is screwed in at the bottom and will fall down anytime these 2 screws are removed.
The W124 back panel is tucked in at the sides...I don't recall what is tucked in were exactly, but I think the sides of the seat are tucked in the edges of the back panel...and you need to peel that out. There are only 2 screws in the bottom of the panel; that is correct. greetingz,

I have loosened the two screws and I am pulling down the back panel as hard as I can, also tried moving it from side to side but still it does not come off. I pried the sides with a tool and after looking carefully with a flashlight I noticed two small metal clips in there. Do they need to come off? The stubborn back panel is driving me nuts here; I am afraid to pull any harder as I am pretty sure that something is going to brake.

Mercedes certainly hid this one! Had me puzzled too until I finally figured it out.
Do *not* try to pull the back panel free - unless the clips are badly sprung you will probably crack the plastic panel. Instead, look for the channel in which the side upholstery is secured into the rear of the seat. You should see 2 silver clips (per side) that secure the upholstery and back panel to the seatback. Carefully pry out the clips and everything will fall-out-of-place. Installation is obvious, now that you know how they did it. Good luck, Barrie |

I'm trying to do the same exact thing and having the same problems. When you say pry out the metal clips, do you mean by using a butter knife or something to get in there and slide them out?

So I really have to take the seatback off to get to the map net cover? I need to rebunge mine.

Instead of removing the seatback to tighten up the netting, consider going to the local dry goods store and picking up a package of barrel toggles.
They're availabe in black . . . just thread a loop of the excess top cord through the toggle and lock it. |

Real easy job!
I just replaced the shock cords on my 126 this weekend.
Super easy. Removed the two bottom screws, pulled the bottom of the seat back cover out to clear the sides, then down. The cargo net is held on by two more screws on the back side. Then wiggle the plastic frame down then to the side to free the hooks. Pull out the old cords, then pry open the crimped on clips to use on the new cords. Used 5/16" black shock cord from a marine supply store. Cost = $2.75 + 1.5 hours of my time. Looks great!

1) My cording is completely dryrotten with no elasticity left, the toggles will not do it. By good suggestion. 2) Thanks for the size of the shock cord, that helps! Looks like I do have to remove the seat back, and this looks like a bear in the W124 -- is it? Or is it more complicated than it looks?
