Hi,
I was trying to lubricate the tracks of the sliding roof yesterday. The roof was opened and closed for 2 or 3 times. Then when I tried to close it, it stopped to move. After a little examination, I had the following conclusions: (1) I can close the roof manually (with the crank supplid with the vehicle). (2) The roof can be opened with the switch. That is, sliding the roof open works just fine. (3) Nothing happens when I try to close the roof with the switch. That is, motor doesn't run at all. Any idea what is happening? And any suggestings where I should start looking for? Thanks in advance. ------------------ Harry (94 C280) |

In addition to bring this topic up to the front of the forum to gain some visibility, I would like to point out something I found in the archive.
There is a post regarding the sunroof of a 92 400E. It had a similar behavior: It could tilt open and close with the switch, but had to be open manually. Mine is just the opposite. The dealer diagnosed (on the 400E) and said the motor had to be replaced. M.B.Doc did mention that replacing only the "microswitch" section of the motor assemble might fix the problem. Does this above information apply to my C280? Where can I find the sunroof motor and how do I check for the microswitch? Thanks in advance for any comments. ------------------ Harry (94 C280) |

First of all, what is the last six numbers of serial #? There was a service campaign for repairing the first 26k C-class sunroofs. Have local dealer check for modified roof closing parts.

There is a TSB dated August 1994 that covers an update to the moonroof on the W202. The serial number range is from 000025 through 025776. Those are the last six numbers of the VIN. The procedure is quite detailed and involves the replacement of several parts.

Thank you M.B.DOC and ARJAY. Thanks for sharing with me the TSB information. However my VIN is out of the range (029507).
BTW, the sunroof came back on working fine since yesterday. Is it something wrong when I lubricated the tracks? I just sprayed some WD-40 and put some grease on the tracks, then opened and closed the roof couple of times. ------------------ Harry (94 C280) |

I've never serviced the sun/moon roof on my C280, but there is a specific sun roof paste available from MB. Part #001-989-46-51. Maybe the Parts Shop can supply it.
