I don't believe any of the 124 chassis range had factory cupholders

....well ..... actually all 124's (not including dual air bag models) and 201's had cup holders built into the cover of the glovebox.

Yeah, like something you can use when the car is stationary....I stand corrected.

For about $5 worth of PVC pipe flange, you can make your own pair that fit under the driver's armrest. |

I've had my eyes on these for a while... check them out:

MB believes that the term cup holder is hold cup. Its just a matter of semantics. Rough it .

you don't need a cup holder with an auto transmission. Manual is a whole other matter though, then it pays to have a nice wife to pass you your drink.
I was always impressed with a friend of mine who used to drive his 240D in downtown Philly whilst eating a slice of pizza. now that's class

Center Console works fine for me
I have a 1995 E420. The center console (with the sliding wood cover) works great to hold drinks. I put a 16 oz. coffee cup in there every morning, and it never spills. I modified the sliding cover to be a bit harder to move back and forth, so that it doesn't open suddenly and let the drink spill.
Works great with fast-food soda cups, and 20 oz. soda bottles too. I'd like to try the under-the-armrest holder, but i don't want to drill holes in my car anywhere. So for now, the console works fine. Troy 1995 E420 79k |

Joe R-
my 300e came with those in the door and they work well. I'm not sure I'd be drilling in to my door, but they do work well.

Given the Germans philosophy on driving, which I happen to agree with, it is absolutely absurd to be drinking any beverage while driving. The German philosophy is to concentrate on driving.
It costs a German over $1500 and over about 60 hours of instruction plus passing a COMPREHENSIVE behind the wheel driving test to get a drivers license. It is against the law for children below the age of 10 to be in the front seat. They are taught that 100% of their concentration goes toward the driving of their car. This is why the German Autobahn, in spite of no speed limit on much of it, has the least fatalities per mile driven, by far, of any other freeway system in the world. That is why MB resisted cup holders until they were just absolutely demanded by the US market. Since I usuall don't use a cupholder, I can't remember whether or not any of the rent cars or company car that I drove in Germany had them. It would not surprise me if the fancy cupholders found in your US MB's are not available in Germany. Good luck, |

yea... one of my wife's sister's first comments when I got the benz and she sat in it- 'where's the cup holders?'
Nevermind the f***in' cup holders, feel the engineering!

Unfortunately, we don't have the 'bahns here in North America . . . we have gridlock impersonating as freeways and expressways. Given the "lackluster" A/C design in the W201, the tropical climate and the bumper to bumper communte traffic . . . I find it a better idea to prevent kidney stones and heat stroke by consuming a beverage in my car. The MB-Tex has yet to complain.
