Mercedes 300TE Seond Seat - Fold Down

OK guys, I feel stupid asking this question ..........................

Does the 2nd seat fold down on a 300TE (1992)? I want to fold down all the seats in my car like a station wagon, but I just cannot figure it out?

I can't find anything in my owners manual.

If it is like my '94: Take the headrests off, pull up on the bench seats using the black handles provided, they should be split, then pull the backrests forward and align the hole in the headrest with the pins on the bench seat. Provides about 88 cubic feet of room I don't think there is anything bigger around.

In addition, you can remove the bench seats. If your car is anything like my 1988 W124TE, after you remove the headrests from the seat backs and pull up on the black handles (located toward the rear of the seat at the bottom of the seat near the door sill, you will discover that the bottom cushions are removeable.

I agree that the cargo area is huge. My TE with all rear seats folded down hauls more stuff than my wife's Durango with the second and third seats folded down. Faster, too.

A cautionary note: Seriously lube the catch mechanism in the cargo area where the ring on the seat back hooks into.

If your interior panels are very similar to my 94, they're impossible (to best of my knowledge) to remove if the seat back lock/release mechanism fails while the seat back is up. The plunger mounted close to the door lock hook, secures the seat back into position when the door is closed.

The interior panels can be easily removed to lube the complete mechanism. The plastic trim containing the light on the pillar slides UP before it comes out. The interior panels are secured by the bolts holding the cargo ring and the seatbelt. There's also screws in the spare tire & oppossite compartments.

P.S. The seat CUSHION (that which you place your tush on) must be folded forward to release the seat BACK.
