I am pulling the head off my 300E and was wondering if I should give the motor an entire rebuild? The car has 270,000kms on it.

Probably depends more on the service history than anything else. ie oil changes (most important). Also any history of severe operating conditions, abuse and the like will affect your decision. If none of the bad stuff applies, take a look at your cylinder walls and piston tops. If no signs of excessive wear, spalling or scoring, the bottom end will probably be OK. BTW, why is the head coming off??

That's about 190k miles? You are OK. I have not ever seen one fail. The only time where they fail is severe overheating.

Did you do a compression test? If you have weak compression, squirt oil in the cylinders and do it again. If the compression comes up, the rings are probably weak, if not the compression is lost to the valves.
