Exclamation 2003 SLK Hardtop Alarm Problem

I'm having trouble getting help from the dealership. I'm hoping someone here can help.

When I have the top lowered, and I hit a bump of any size, the hardtop alarm goes off and the switch blinks red. This happens just about every time I drive with the top lowered. Recently, it's started happening even when I have the top raised.

With the top lowered, stopping the car and pulling the switch to lower it does not make the alarm stop. I have to raise the top all the way and the lower it again to turn the alarm off.

I've had it into the dealership several times. They've "aligned the sensors" and finally "replaced the sensors." Still no joy.

I'd appreciate any help you could offer.

Note I'm not talking about the car alarm that sounds when someone's trying to steal the car. I'm talking about the beeping that the car makes when I have the lights on and the door open, or the car on and no seatbelt. Pulling a fuse to disable the alarm is an acceptable solution to my problem. Anyone know what fuse to pull?

Er
IC

Update

So it's back in the shop. They "adjusted the limiter switches" and told me it was fixed. I didn't get it 1/2 a mile and the alarm went off again. I brought it straight back and talked with the shop manager. He says there are about 40 switches in there and that one of them must be making contact when I hit a bump. He says it will take some time but they will track it down. He "guaranteed" they'd get it fixed.

Am I the only one dealing with this issue?

Can anyone else help?

On my wife's 2003 SLK (9,000 miles) we have not had any problem like this at all. Good luck with getting it fixed.

There are two latches (left and right) in the trunk that are responsible for latching the forward part of the trunk lid. When you operate the top the trunk lid opens rearward. Open the lid and look at the catches and the latches responsible for holding the forward section of the trunk lid down.

One of them may be the culprit.
