I have a 78 300D and my windows are starting to drive me CRAZY!
In perticular the rear windows and the front passenger window. What I see happening is that the aluminium struckture(sp?) that holds the motor and the arm that raises the windows is bent. I replaced the rear aluminium assemblies and straightend them out, but within a couple of weeks they were bent again. An easy way to tell if they are bent is that the window will grind/make clicking noises when it reaches the top. Does anyone know if ther are updated assemblies that do not bend? I noticed that my parents 83 300td does not have any problems what so ever with the windows. Help! Thanks. Mark. |

Whats the condition of the bracket(s) that holds the glass? If the bracket is rusting and separating from the glass, it can also knock or catch inner parts of the door and make the noises you described. This could be what is causing the arms to bend.

SW,
the brackets were fine. I wonder if worn out window seals (the ones in the door frame) can add a lot of friction and thus bend the frames.... Mark. |

worn or dirty can make it sluggish. I just noticed sluggishness in my 300d rear
passenger. Get a helper to push the button while you lightly help the window as it goes up and look for any differences. 2 cents worth. ------------------ 1979 300D 133K miles 1989 300SE 1995 C280 |
