I'm wondering what items 1 and 2 are. They are both located near the battery on my '87 260E (M103 W124) thanks,

#1 is the "altitude correction capsule" (the tube is just a vent)

Yea two looks like the trimming resistor for the ignition timing map.

As langfeife stated, it is an altitude correction sensor. It gives the fuel management system information on altitude.
