Question Just bought 89 300E and the sunroof stopped working

Aloha Everyone!

I just bought a 1989 300E yesterday (love the car!). My wife was driving the car and when she got back home the sunroof wouldn't shut. I checked the fuse and it is good. I have searched through past posts and see that I can manually close the roof. When I press the button to close the roof I don't hear the motor running. I would appreciate any help any of you could provide. This is a great site!

Mahalo (Thanks)

Talking stuck sunroof

Look for the straight Z shaped metal rod which comes with the car either in the tool kit or the Benz manual kit and this is used to manually turn the sunroof to close it. Open the plastic roof console where the buttons are for the lights and sunroof and you will see the hole where the tool fits for the winding. Correct me if I am wrong as I own 2 C180s which I think will not be too different from a E class as far as the sunroof mech is concerned.

Are you sure that the fuse is OK? Just because it looks ok does not mean that it is ok. A hairline crack in the fuse can cause problems. I would change the fuse and try again.

Furthermore, are you sure that the motor is not running? Check the connections to the motor. If it is the motor and not the cable, then I believe that you are in luck since installing a new cable for the sunroof is a hefty labor intensive job!!!!

The first thing I would do is lube the rails.

Mine stopped working and I couldn't hear the motor running.

I took it to the closest MB independent, and he noticed the rails were bone dry.

He lubed them up and it magicall started working again.
