1985 380 Sl
I recently inherited this Mercedes with 93,000 miles. About two months ago, the battery died. I jumped it off and drove to the Auto Parts House and purchased new battery.
After installation of battery--three problems arose;(1) Anti Lock brake light stays on; (2) Auto cranks fine but idles at about 800 rpm, then increases to 2000-2200 rpm--idle speed varies; (3) when moving forward, the transmission does not shift properly--can acellerate to about 30mph and manually shift into neutral, then back to drive and it runs okay until speed is reduced, or until I reach a stop sign or stop light. Any suggestions? |

Sounds like maybe the overvoltage protection relay is fried. There is a little fuse in the top of it under the snap down lid. Check that and also pull the relay and shake it and listen for any rattling sounds inside it.
