Help with vin

I am looking at importing a 1990 500sl. Can the VIN number tell me the month of production? ( It must be older than 15 years). Is there any other way of determining this?

The month of production appears on the plate on the door jamb of every MB I have seen...so ask the seller what it says. Chances are good that a 1990 model year car was made before 2/90 as they probably began production in the early of 89 for the 90 MY (my 98 was made in July '97, as an example).

I may stand corrected, but if you're actually bringing the car in from another country, it may not have a VIN number on it.

Give me the VIN and I'll check the data card which contains the delivery date.
