I had a bad trunk lock assembly for my '84 300D, so I got a replacement from a junker in the salvage yard (which I've not installed yet, since I have no key for it). Can I get a key made for that lock, or would it be better to try and get the lock assembly for MY car from MBZ or whoever?

Take it to a locksmith, if they can't rekey it to your key , then its a
paper weight !

I'm pretty sure Mercedes keys need to be made to order by Mercedes. I suppose if you wanted to carry an extra key on your key chain you could use it. If you hook it up right your central locking system should lock and unlock the trunk whenever you lock or unlock a door (not sure on your model, but that's what I've seen on all the other models I known).

Do you have the VIN for the car that the lock came out of. You can provide the VIN to Benz and they can get you a key. I'm sure you would have to show something to get this. If you could do this with just any VIN, all you would have to do to steal a car would be to read the VIN through the windshield, order a key and drive it away. Of course, I suppose a car thief finds more sport in breaking glass and lock mechanisms.

Good luck,
