My friend has the chance to buy a 1999 E300 turbo diesel. Is this a good car in the good 'ol Mercedes tradition. He will be a new Mercedes owner. Will he be dissappointed or impressed.

I own a 99 300 Turbodiesel which I purchased new. It currently has 23K miles and has been trouble free thus far. I particularly enjoy the turbo "rush" around 2500 rpm. The engine is very quiet and stingy on fuel. I get around 30mpg in town and 32-34mpg on the highway at 75mph with the a/c running most of the time since I live in FL. Most people will never notice this car has a diesel engine...except for "glow plug wait" before starting. If only my ML 320 had the same engine......

Unless your friend is getting out of something very special, he will be very, very impressed. Best diesel on the planet, except for the new CDI's which won't make it to the US.

I have a 1999 E 300 Diesel and love it. The car rides very well and is extremely safe. The diesel is wonderful and with 40k on it has been no problem. The motor pulls the mountains and hilly terain very well with the cruise set at 70. Need to pass just apply a little pressure to the throttle and you are around and gone. Very powerful motor. I had it outside during the winter in zero degree weather for ten days and it fired right up every time. I intend to keep this car a long time. Love that turbo whine. If someone gets too close to your bumper just romp on the throttle and the black cloud will get him off your bumper if they can catch you.
