Question Adjusting Euro Lights

I have just installed a set of Euro head lights on my w201 and when I max out the vertical adjustment upwards, it still seems like the beam is a little low. Is this because I need to attach the vacuum line and adjuster?

By "adjust" are you referring to the using the knobs on the headlights themselves, or to a knob to the left of the steering wheel?

If you mean the knobs on the lights themselves - no, you don't need to hook up a vacuum line.

I'm adjusting them with the knobs on the headlight housing.. I don't have the vacuum adjuster. They seem to be maxed out vertically and the beam still seems a bit low to me.

I'm just wondering if I need the vacuum adjustment in order to get them to aim even higher.

You do not have to have the vaccum adjust system to properly aim the lights. Keep in mind that the vaccum adjust points the lights lower and closer to the car to offset the rear end being pushed down from rear axle loads.

How are you doing the adjustment? I presume you're doing the flat perpendicular wall, marking, then moving 25 feet back?

At 25 feet, you want the horz cut-off on the wall [low beam] to be 2-3 inchs lower than the height from ground to the center of the light on the car...[ this will be a 2-3 inch dip]

For r/l aiming, a good way is to place a piece of tape exactly in the middle of the rear window and stand behind the car, and using the Benz Star hood emblem/tape as a sight, have someone mark the wall where you direct them .. from there adjust the r/l equal distance from the center line , 1/2 the distance of the center/center measurement of the lamps on the car.....
This give you straight ahead aiming in direction of travel..
There is NO high beam adjustment w/E code...

Thanks for the aiming suggestion Arthur! That sounds like a cool method for adjusting the lights to aim straight ahead. I'll give it a shot!

If you do not have someone to direct back/forth at the wall when aiming/sighting from the rear, you can do it yourself by putting a piece of tape on the wall at approximate center and then re-sight from the rear to see how far and what direction the tape has to be moved.. a couple times and you can zero it right in..........
the trick here is to use your dominent eye..golfers do this all the time
If you don't know which one is your dominent , just place a finger up at arms length and line it up with something w/both eyes open ... then shut one eye at a time..without changing your arm/finger.
one sighting will appear to be the same as when both eyes are open , but one will drastically move right or left...
The one that does not change is your dominent eye .. use that eye for wall center-line marking.........

little extreme, but what the hell...might as well do it right
