California car from new. I had the car shipped in last year.
THE GOOD: I have gone over most of the car and given her a new water pump, mercedes seat inserts,new plugs,wires,cap,rotor,air filter and I just changed the oil filter and replaced the oil with "ROYAL PURPLE". I just installed 4 new tires today.
This is NOT a U.S. production vehicle. This was listed as a grey market car back then due to the fact that the U.S. vehicles were equipped with the underpowered 3.8L. This is a 5.0L V-8 that shows to have produced over 220hp. while equipped with the smaller euro bumpers. This is loaded with full power equipment such as dual power seats, power rear seat, power windows,central locking system,power sunroof, height adjustable/leveling suspension, alloy wheels, fog lights and a blaupunkt am/fm cd player. The car has more than enough power and is a rare find especially since this is a californis car with NO RUST! Car is in beter than average condition considering the age. The interior is pretty decent plus the car came with custom fit true sheep skin seat covers that are very heavy and in great condition if you don't like sitting on leather?? I have other projects that are taking priority so my loss is your gain,I have over $3700 invested.
THE BAD: The car needs very little to make her a daily driver and not much more to make her a Saturday night special for car shows. The paint is weak on the roof and trunk and their is 2 small dents in the top of the trunk lid. the wheels do have some pitting but buffing and some chrome polish will take them to better than average condition. The drivers power window motor need replaced, I found one on ebay for $25. plus shipping. the car does show 238k miles but the motor, trans and rear end are very solid!!
Again you won't find a Mercedes with these features that hasn't ben loaded with rust and bondo... keep in mind in 1983 they made the 500 SE(standard wheel base) and the 500 SEL(long wheel base). this is the 500 SEL! This car isn';t going to be for everyone. you have to appreciate cars to really know that this is. Full coverage Insurance can be had thru collector car companies, I pay only $105./year.
