AMG V8 assembly.

If this is a repost I'll delete it...

I was lucky enough to have the privilege of touring the AMG plant two years ago. Even though it was a lot smaller than I thought it would be, it was quite impressive. The guys downstairs were building the V8 Kompressor engines and the naturally aspirated 6.3's. The guys upstairs built the SLR motors and the twin-turbo V12's. I was surprised at how quickly these guys could turn out complete engines. The V8 Kompressors took about 3 1/2 hours, the 6.3's about five, start to finish. The V12's and SLR motors took about 12 hours. Before we left, we saw a V12 get a run-in on the "hot test bench". The dyno/computer combination ran it through a few simulated hot-laps, complete with glowing cherry-red turbo's (I still can't believe how these things stay together!). All the guys in the engine department wear the same black polo shirts, with the AMG logo. They're really cool looking. I bought one before I left ($75 US).

Thanks. That was interesting. They should do an episode of "How It's Made" there.

Boy, that factory looks clean enough to eat off the floor. I like watching that. It would be a blast to be able to go in person and watch them do that, especially if they were building the engine for the car that you had just bought!
