111 seats

HI guys,
I am in the market for new seats to replace the replacements someone stuck in my 111 coupe. I have no idea what is in there now but they are rigged with wood strips to fill the gap from the hardware to seat frames. I am sure many would "fit" but what is right is a different story. I am looking to eventually recover everything once I have it all so what is important to me is finding originality.
thanks, opossum

There are early and late seat frames. Perhaps you've got the wrong type. The early ones were used on the 220se and just little metal skids. The later ones were more like the 108 chassis style, where the seat frame holds the seat away from the floor by a few inches. -CTH

There is a guy on mercedesclub website called charliecarnut or something like that, he has several w111 coupes that he is stripping for parts. What you are looking for is not too difficult to find. You can find then on ebay also, but stay away from atvm and another guy who I can not remember at the moment. I like to test sellers some times by asking them questions and see how they respond. Some of the common ebay coupe sellers are selling items like retractable seatbelts for early w111's, but when you comment that the early w111 can not accept retractables, they say that they can all you have to do is cut the sheet metal under the passenger side and then re-sew the rear seat upholstery..... yeah anything is possible, but not everything is resaleable. The point here is that your parts are easily available but you need to be cautious of who you are dealing with.
If you need pictures or help email me at leonardbrenner@sbcglobal.net as I personally redid my leather upholstery last winter and know those seats very well.
Again what is the year your working with? The early w111 are a bit different then the later w111's

Thanks guys,
Mine is a 67 and it appears that they are just the skid type with the chrome cover. All the hardware seems original and someone just replaced the spring and pad area if that is possible. Pictures would be nice. I will email you Leonard from my yahoo acct.

best regards,
opossum

I've got your hook up for '67 Coupe seats!

The Buyer of my '67 250SE Coupe just destroyed the original cognac leather on both the front seats and the back seat by treating them with Leatherique.

He's just purchased some freshly upholstered seats from a later model 111 and I believe wants to sell the car's original seats.

Email me directly if you would like his email addy.

Hey todd,
that sounds good. I will send you a pm. I found some things locally that would work but none are correct. I just about bought some from a 70 280se sedan and right at the last minute I realized we need the seats to fold forward with the coupes. I'll drop your friend a line and see what he wants for them.
thanks, opossum

111 seats

Todd-
I've got a '69 W111-026 coupe 3.5 and am just finishing a fix-up on the front seats. I had a broken spring unit on drivers side; I got a replacement w111 seat base and reused the seat pad and outer leather. Very easy DIY project with the correct spring unit! The seats are still out of the car, I can send jpgs and measurements if needed.

HI Tom,
I'd love to see some Jpegs if you wouldnt mind. I have a couple local options that may work but have never seen what is "correct"

Thanks, opossum
