I want a rev counter in my W108.

Does anyone know of a Rev counter that will fit in the dash in place of the clock on my W108. I know that Mercedes put them in a 6.3 but would like to know if an after market one can be installed.

Many thanks

It should be a standard size. A used 6.3 tach can be had for under 100$. -CTH

MMMHMMM... Got the 'ol light bulb dimly lit. Any pics of this tach install? Part Numbers?

How hard would it be to adapt it to a '72 4.5?

How about this?

It's from Ebay, I don't know if it works. The seller claimed it came from a 6 cylinder car even though it says 8 ZYL on the back.

It has the following numbers stamped on the back from top to bottom.

12V/24000 Jmp.

230/29/ 3 12.73

8 ZYL / 4 takt

I wanted it for my 250C but I didn't try it when I saw the 8 Zyl

250c rev counters

I have seen these a couple of times inside W114 280E cars when I lived in England. I think that the w108 and w114 have the same dash or very similar.

It was (stock?) on 6.3's. Since a 6.3 is an 8-cyl, it should work fine on a 3.5 or 4.5 without any mods, hooked up the same way as on a 6.3. However, the redline marking is too low for either.

It will still work on a 6 cyl, it will just read a few 100 rpm's low....so combined with the m100 lower redline, it should be just fine for your 6.

Or if you want, you could send it to Palo Alto Speedo and they can put in a different electronics board with the different capacitor for a 6 cylinder.....and for more money they can even screen in a new face with a higher redline.

That redline is fine for a 6.3. They run out of steam at over 4,500 rpm. That is the reason Mercedes put a 2.6 : 1 final drive ratio in that model.

Keep that up and I may want to keep it!

New goal: 6.3 rear. $ave on gas.
