A $5,000 IP for a 6.3?!

Seems a little pricey, even for a 6.3.

Its fine once you understand DB's pricing structure for the M-100 engined cars. Take normal (read "rather high") spare part prices, multiply by a factor of 6.3 for the parts unique to the 6.3, then follow that same formula for the 6.9 model. Its when pricing 600 parts that this curve gets close to vertical.

Point is how many people are willing to pay it? THey might ask it , but who is going to pay it.

Sad, but true. I have heard of Inj pumps costing large sums, but this is not the way to do it. If you need a perfect Inj pump, I would buy one used and have it professionally rebuilt, there are several good places to have them rebuilt for anywhere from $1500 to $2000.

It is similar to a miniature engine, really.

BTW, in general, the Inj pumps from this era are more bulletproof than even the most durable MBZ engine. I've never thought of completely rebuilding one.

Exactly. However, you probably could bolt it on and enjoy.

Anyway, it's much more expensive that a professionally rebuilt spare, which should run fine for the next fifty years.

He's looking for the maniac restorer who will not let cost stand in the way of perfection. It IS probably one of a very few in the world.

You're probably right! Which reminds me I had better have my assistant call the flight crew to tell them to fuel up my 747 cargo conversion for a jaunt to Berlin tomorrow.

It would need to be rebuilt due to sitting on the shelf for so long, according to MB specs.

I wouldn't call this rare. There are many many out there to rebuild.
Now, if a part needed to be fabricated from the bare elements to be replaced, that I call rare.

Sure there are not many 6.3 still on the roads in good shape, ans sure the parts are expensive as MBZ parts go, but these cars are not rare. There are very few post war benzs that are extremely rare to command absurd price tags on parts.

Other than W128 coupes/cabrios,300S coupes/cabrios, and the 300SL.
I quit driving my w128 sedan because of the absurd parts prices.
