That's a ring and pinion -- and good luck. Have you tried searching Hemmings.com?

Good luck. The pinion was a weak point on the 6.3. Last I read the list price on a new one was something like $2,500.

It could also work with a spur gear and a pinion from a 280se 4.5.
And it should be easier to find, right?

They have a completely different rear gear. If you want to try a(n entire) rear from a 4.5, you'll be running much higher revs and the top speed will probably be lowered to around 110 or so... I think the gears themselves are incompatible.

That's probably about as good as it's gonna get. I shudder to contemplate the shipping cost to Sweeden...

I noticed your link to German Star in your signature are you Phil? The guy with the parts ad at the top of the Shop Forum home page ? I have bought a lot of parts from you under a different name and they were much higher than this link .Why is that ?

Good luck!

I'm putting a 300d automatic-88 in my w108 thats why i need to change ratio.
I have 3.92 ratio now but thats way to high for the 300d, thats why i need the spur gear from a 6.3. but i have discovered that they are too expensive, so now I'm searching for a spur gear and a pinion from a 4.5 with ratio 3.23 to se if they are less expensive.

So if anyone have an e-mail adress or something to a junkyard that have a 4.5 in stock, it would be great.
