how to haul a car after youve dismantled it

Seeing as i'm going to be parting a car out at my garage, I was wondering how i can have the car hauled away once Ive removed everything i need to.

Has anyone done this before (benzcrusher?).

Whats the deal?

I've done it with other cars, but I had to rent a trailer and get rid of them myself.

Usually I haul them on the trailer before I pull the suspension and then just leave the shell on the trailer. Once that's done you take it to a scrap metal place and they'll unload it with a big magnet crane.

I don't think junkyards will haul away a stripped shell.

The other option is to get a sawzall and cut it into small pieces which you then discard in dumpsters all over town. I've done that too...

I just load up the trailer and take it to the scrap metal dealer. I use winches, a truck, a trailer and a farm tractor to load the trailer.... You may want to call some of the scavengers listed in you local newspaper who advertize junk removal or junk cars wanted.

i usually seem to have a supply of bent rims with old tires on them so i usually put four on the car to be disposed of and call my favorite crusher and he comes and gets them. if they have stuff in them he will pay some ususlly but if they are basically empty shells he might either offer nothing or charge me a bit depending on the price of scrap.

btw he said one day he was crushing one of my hulk benzes and also had a racing stock car to crush. while his crusher did the stock car easily he said it groaned a lot on the benz. he was definately impressed. 123 body.

You can just chop up the body. It is relatively easy. I did it at the parking lot of an apartment building where I once lived. The owner of the apartment building was however not real happy about me putting the chopped up body in the "big garbage room"

The winch on tilt flatbeds is strong enough to drag a carcass onto the deck with no wheels at all. I've seen it done. But there are probly tow truck operators who grimace at the prospect of doing it. Plus it will chew up your driveway.

using the 18tpi sawsall blades, you can reduce a WV rabbit to garbage can sized tidbits in 3-5 blades. I knew two guys that made lots of money doing that back in the 80s.

The worst part of a 108 chassis car is the base of the roof. There are 5 layers steel at the rear.

Your best bet it to make friends with a guy that hauls scrap cars. Let him know that you'll pay cash for any mercedes dropped off at your place for stripping and that he can have the carcass when you're done for the steel.

I got lots of dead cars that way back in the early 90s when I had the time and space to tear a car apart on the weekend. Ah, the good old days.

What a cunning plan!

I really need to get myself some comercial space so i can do this more effectivly. I spoke to a couple of friends about the sawzall idea. It's amazing how many people are interested in helping me saw a car up.

I did this with an old Nissan 240 pickup I had about 3-4 years ago. It's amazing how much stress you can relieve by cutting through steel like butter.

be sure to wear ear protection. The prolonged noise exposure will do damage. And yes, it is lots of fun. -CTH

how to hawl a car after youve dismantled it

I have done this on 2 114 chassis MB's.
Strip everything, including both front and rear sub-frames assemblies.

I have a 2' x 2' dolly. I balance the car on the dolly, push it out of the garage.
The scrap guys pick it up and haul it away.

You don't get enough scrap value out of the shell and I have had to pay $10 or $20 for them to haul the shell away.

I suspect you would spend more money than that on blades, not to mention your time and potential for injury.

Good luck.

Yeah, but people pay to go to gyms, and amusment parks...
Why not have both, exercise AND amusment.

Haul, btw... that was bugging me
