Say, "good-bye" to all of your "loose" money. If you have the time to spend AND the money, you can make a nice project car. Figure on about 5-6 K and up to 200 man-hours, depending on the rust issues. Part it out and spend the money on a nice "runner".

Now mind you, this advice is from a lunatic who thinks nothing of spending his time and money restoring old W114's!

$5,000.00 to $6,000.00? I would bet one dozen doughnuts that NecroSavant can have this car running and pass safety inspection for less than $1,000.00. That man has skill and he is fearless!

Necro = pertaining to dead
Savant = beyond genius

This guy will figure out a way to convert a dead $100.00 car into a $5,000.00 bargain dream car!

Yes, these are interference engines. But usually the chain jumps on the left bank due to one of the guide rail break on that side. I would take both cam covers off and see if timing is still ok. One tooth off may not have bent any valve if lucky.

If you are going to part the engine, I'd be interested in obtaining the aspirator valve with the attached pipe(as pictured above) that connects to the chain tensioner.

Sorry, just had to ask. I've been looking for quite some time. PM me if intersted.

Thanks,
John

To answer your question,all the pans interchange from the first 3.5 to the last 560. if you want to air suspension in your car you can even bolt on a W109 3.5 pan with air compressor..LOL!
The car will handle very nicely with the lighter engine too. While you are it,why not swap the trans for a four speed automatic?
As for that aspirator valve,thats a new one to me. We didn't have anything like that here,what does it do?

In reality it doesn't do much. It injects air into the exhaust to lean out the mixture by way of the O2 sensor for a supposedly smoother idle. Pretty much just a bunch of late 70's emissions nonsense.

Currently I have it blocked off and all is good. But being a purist, it bothers the hell out of me not having all as it was designed to be.

I'm not sure iron block oil pans fit on alloy blocks. I looked at it some time ago because I had the reverse problem. EPC shows different references for the gaskets. Also remember that there is no intermediry flange on the 5.0 and the oil pan is part of the fixations for the transmission. You will also have to fit a later transmission (without detacheable bell housing) as the bolt pattern is different. Finally, you may have to (or may be not?) swap the oil filter housing as it faces down on the SL and up on the 126. I think any alloy block SL would be a good donor (380 or 560) for these parts.

Dude! The air cleaner is worth that!! Wow!

The motor looks like an M117. There must be plenty of motors available for replacement. Didn't you tell me you saw two W108 4.5 liters in the pick-a-part salvage?

Car looks solid, but check the floor out as many FL SL's seem to have had some beach time. If it's just the engine, then find yourself a running 450SEL for $100 and you have a lot of fun for your dollars.

.

floors are solid little rust in the back, some on the bottoms of the doors, and some on the driver fender
