6.3 fuel sending unit - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

I just received my fuel sending unit for the 6.3. On it is a sticker that says: "remove pin before installing".

What pin? All there is are 4 electrical connectors on the end, which are immoveable posts. Anybody familiar with this thing?

Sounds like there is a shipping lock pin to keep the float from bouncing around during shipping..
Did you look on the sides of the tube??
Is the float free when you turn the unit?

It looks like the pic, it is a round tube. I can hear a slight jiggle if I shake it. I was wondering if there was something under the label, cause i figured the label would not last long and would plug something up.

The pin is under the label.. it must be removed..

No results yet. I am trying to locate new tires since I have 3 that separated and I have a full tank left to consume.

What I was refering to was if you took the label off the new unit to see if the pin you asked about was under it.

I seem to recall that they used the vent/equalizer hole in the side of the casing in a manner that the pin kept the float from bouncing up and down the guide/resistance wires in transit - not a large item - actually very small in diameter, but enough to hold it in the end of the tube until released.
