Fuel pump upgrade question
I've got a 76 450sl and the fuel pump is going.
The Haynes manual mentions that there were three versions of the 450sl fuel pump, and that if you have an earlier one you should replace it with the 2nd or 3rd version. Do you all agree? The pump listed at Fastlane is part # 0580 254 942, but it has a different feed tower (for the banjo fitting) than the one on my car. The newer pump looks like it needs a female thread nut to attach the banjo, vs. the male thread check valve/banjo attachment that screws into my older pump. Is there a simple solution here? Fastlane shows the same fitted banjo hose for both pumps, but there's clearly a different tower/check valve attachment on each. Thanks for any thoughts. |

Check out the pictures for a '77 450SEL - They show two pumps available...the Pierburg picture shows a fitting/adapter included with the "kit".
Is this the fitting you are referring to? Any part #'s on the pump itself?

thanks, larry
my original pump part # is 0580 254 984. The Pierburg does look like it has the nut attachment for the banjo fitting, but I'm puzzled why I can't find a similar nut for the Bosch pump. the old pump is still available - I just wonder if the newer one is significantly better. |
