280SE vs 250SE or M130 vs M129?
Besides displacement, can anyone tell me the essential differences between the M130 in my 1971 W108 280SE sedan and the engine (M129?) in my soon to arrive 1967 250SE W111?
Did they share much in the way of components? Any info greatly appreciated. S

The basic idea is the same, 6 cyl motor, overhead cam, various things bolted on in the same place. Lots of little details change to make the M130 "better". Things like the number of crank journals went up by one. The pattern of cooling holes in the block changed, The shape of the intake plenum, the details on the throttle linkages, improvements to the fuel distributor, beefier oil cooling. Emission control changes, hotter camshaft (thus different rockers too I think).

No difference in number of crank mains. That change would be between the 127 and 129 engines. [ from 4 to 7]

Thanks Arthur, good news. Good to know I’ll be dealing with a robust bottom end at least. Just love the M130 in the sedan. Pulls up interstate hills like a freight train with no end in sight. Great motor.
Thanks. S
