It's a scam. It works like this...he gets you to contact him, then he has your email address an knows your an ebay member. He sells the email addresses to "phisher" or phishes himself sending out fake ebay emails trying to get you to reveal your username and password.
These guys use auctions like this all the time...they are simply trying to find ebay member's email addresses.

He's gone!
The listing has been pulled. Whoever alerted Ebay, Thanks to you they nipped this one in the bud. I thought also, that the car should be worth somewhere in the $750,000.00 range to a serious collector, and he has a scam on it for $7000.00. But it was a beautiful Mercedes sportster, about as pretty as I have ever seen! I guess if your going to use bait, you might as well go first class.

When I reported the posting to e-bay I got a reply with language similar to "We may pull it, we may not. Whatever we decide to do is our business and we won't tell you why we did what we did or didn't do. Thanks for shopping e-Bay and have a nice day.." (I added the last part myself
 eBay is notorious for protecting the seller - buyer be damned. At least they paid attention and hatcheted this scammers listing.
