I can't belive I did this

Last night, I was changing the steering coupler on the W110.
On re-assembly, I accidently plugged the turn signal plug in the instrument cluster plug socket on the main harness, and fried the fuel sender in the tank

The plug for the instrument cluster and the turn signals look the same and are right next to one another. Lucky I didn't burn the car up

....wonder how may MB techs made the same mistake:???;

Anyone else like to share a stupid story

Regards,
Bryan

stupid stupid stupid...

I can sympathize with you. A few weeks ago I was doing a valve adjustment on my 190SL. Had the valve cover off (obviously...) and I ALWAYS lay it next to the car. Not this time. I set it aside and then promptly dropped the hood on it... Nice silver dollar sized dimple in the hood, paint cracked, etc...

When I was getting my 190sl ready for re-assem.,
I stuck the grill in one night just to admire it.
Forgot about it the next day, backed up, it fell
off and ran right over it !!!!!

If you don't mess up then you are not working on cars. After two long days of swapping heads to repair two blown head gaskets, I missed torqueing the cam sprocket bolt on my 190SL. The end result was that on a test drive, the cam slide off of the support bearings and created a lot of noise as the cam broke in three pieces. You can read about it at http://www.mbca.org/virginia/190sl/jim_prob.html
