I want to post about thirty photos of my control arm repair. I have the photos on image shack but I can not get them on to the post. I want to also add comments to each photo. This is a complete disassemble, repair/refurbish, and installation of the control arms and steering knuckle.

I am interested in seeing your pictures... This site is not very picture friendly. Pelican Parts has a Mercedes tech section, that does not get nearly as much traffic as this site, but they do allow a liberal amount of photo posting. Maybe you can post there and put a link to that post here?

I am about to change my tie-rod assembly and repack my wheel bearings, and I would love to see some pictures so I am at least familiar with the various parts I will be seeing. I use the Pelican Parts site for my Porsche and I must say that having pictures makes it much easier to understand what someone is explaining.

Images are a language as old as communication itself. Plain text is a poor substitute, hyroglyphics would be more useful to explain mechanical concepts.

You can use the w108.org gallery site for image hosting and the forum site (if you feel like it) to build the step by step instructions and reference it here.

The only limitation on this site is the number of pictures that you can add in one post. This is easily worked around by creating multiple posts.

If you have written a DIY article complete with pictures I can post it in the DIY Articles section. All I need is the text of the article and the pics or links to the pics on image shack.

Did you try simply linking to the pics within your post? If they're on image shack you should be able to do that. Here's how to use vB Code to link pictures within a post:

Also, you can upload up to 5 pictures per post right here in the Shop Forum as long as the pics are within our size limits. Simply make 6 posts in your thread and you have all 30 pics. Here's an example where another Shop Forum member uploaded 30 pics with comments:

I've been hounded by wanna-be "know-it-alls," here, and elsewhere on the net when it comes to working on, and repairing my car myself. Repeatedly telling me to "fix your car yourself," with no instructions, somehow isn't getting the job done. Like, duh! Can I work on my car? Absolutely. Are there jerks that enjoy belittling other's mechanicing abilities? Absolutely.

I am a newcomer here and certainly appreciate our host for providing the forum. I did not know that there was a section here with diy articles where pictures were more numerous.

My experience at Pelicanparts.com has been all about Porsche. I have learned much about the mechanical functions and do-it-yourself ways to improve my 1985 Carrera from other members sharing in the forums. The Pelican Parts site has limits regarding number of pics per post and file size also. I think that the members on the Porsche site (PelicanParts.com) have evolved in the language of Internet DIY faster than other sites. Pictures are a necessary part of communication. Here is an example of a posting explaining a trick for installing a spring on the fuel door of a 911.

Mercedesshop/forum seems to be the best website that is all about Mercedes Benz. The language of the Internet is changing, it used to be green or amber text on a black screen. Now it is pictures with arrows or circles pointing to the exact thing we are discussing. The guys who drive Mercedes just might be a little slower than the Porsche guys... but eventually we will catch up here.

I looked at the article in the DIY section titled "W108 subframe mount". It is good to have some pictures, but I don't know what I am looking at. Many of the experienced mechanics will say "duh!", you must be ignorant if you don't know what a sub frame mount looks like. Well... I am ignorant, but not stupid. I am here to learn. If we were looking at the car with the wheel off and the car jacked up, you experienced knowledgeable types would point and say "that is the control arm, and that is the sub frame mount". The same thing is needed with pictures.

Here are the same two photos... One is arrows. I don't know what A, B, or C is... The article does not explain the photos. If we could agree on a common language for communicating these ideas, it would make it much easier to learn and share knowledge. Every photo editing program has a way to make arrows and type text.

Yes. You should start a new thread.

If you don't know what A, B or C is, you should not be doing front end repair, especaily on that type of chassis. You could get decappitated by a flying spring.

I reckon one of them there "know it alls" has reared his head.:whip: Down boy!

I am going to do front end repair, on this chassis. If I get decappitated, you will probably read about it. I will try to leave behind good pictures, maybe even video, so the next guy knows how to kill himself or not.

I am familiar with this type of front suspension.

I copy the forum code for a photo and paste it into the insert image of this forum. The image does not load. What am I doing wrong?

The image has to conform to the size permitted, 800x600 pixels max, and no larger than 72k. It should load after that, browse, select, click upload.
