Look at the second picture

http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.asp?TP=1&F=110000%5F226&M=121%2E924&CT=F&cat=226&SID=26&SGR=001&SGN=01

and bushings 367 or 441 and linkage end bushing 591 or 605 need to be replaced. In fact, buy two sets and replace them all. You will be in there so do all of them.

From the pic you posted, I can't tell which rod it is.

Check 'Buy Parts' and call Phil.

Hello,

The plastic socket part of your linkage has deteriorated and fallen apart allowing the linkage to fall off. The end with the large black rubber bushing is less prone to failure but I would replace both while your at it and you may wish to replace the ones on the other linkage rod, they should be the same. Do them one at a time if you do them both so as not to get things mixed up. Both ends just snap on. The rubber end is easiest. Use a little lube to help things go back together. Use something which will not attack the plastic or rubber (silicone grease etc).

The end with the metal/plastic ball socket can be a bit difficult. Use some vice grips or channel pliers to press the linkage ball into the socket.

For temporary or emergency fix, re-install and use some plastic wire ties to hold the likage in place. The shifter will be a little sloppy but you'll get home!

Joe has a lot on MB experience and is a W113 guru. You will find that many components on the 60's cars the same, with exceptions, and the SL113 forum has a lot of valuable info that a Fintail owner can use. The Ponton group also has valuable infor that we Fintail owners can use.
