m130 camshaft

Seems like this 1140510201 is the current part number for a m130 cam, which Mercedes currently sells. How do I know what number is stamped in the end of the cam? In other words, how do I know the cam specs?

Thanks.

Other than asking a seller to look at the exact item you would receive, I cannot think of another way to verify which version you would get.

there should be a cam code stamped on the back of the cam. Armed with the little technical data manual, you would be able to get the valve timing info with that code.

One of these...

that second post has the page from the TDM I was referring to.
The charts from ja17 (Joe Alexander) are trustworthy.

I didn't see either thread pointing out that the number on the side of cam is based on how / when / what was cast. While the number on the back is how the grinding went down.

Note a casual comment about the pedestal size. I know from personal experience that the 1968 M130E motor had different cam pedestals from later M130E motors. The problem there was the replacement pedestals I used from a later motor were 1mm higher, which gave me signifcant problems on setting valve lash. The cure was to either get the older pedestals or get thicker spacers over the valve spring. The spacers come in a range of thicknesses for lash issues and at the time, they were inexpensive, so I went that route. I only mention it as a corner case, just in case you find yourself cornered.

Your right about those Cam Towers is a vast array of different ones and some have Tower spacers as well > When getting a used Head or different head its a real good idea to make sure you get the Cam Towers with the head > I think they are line bored bolted down to the head for the Cam >
If the OP has the Original Cam Towers in good shape and returned to the exact place they where on you just need the right Camshaft but other will work as well most likely.
