HELP. 4.5 crank issues
That 450 SEL I am looking at, it's in the trannyshop, they brought it in thawed it out, and it cranks slow...enough that it won't start.
starter? I'm thinking of forcing a deal here, for the grief and waiting I've had to endure, I am going to demand that I get that 450 and another 450 parts car for $2000 the only way I can see making this worth my while. It's slowly slipping from my grasp

There is a second one there rusty but I can possibly use the tranny. and other parts.

I finally spoke to one of the mechanics who got it running initialy, and he said all he had to do was throw some gas down it's throat and she fired right up. must be bad fuel. Oscar (the tranny guy) said it was a "fairly new battery" so it could be suspect. I'll have to charge up my 1100a diesel battery and see what that does to it

Must be battery if it "cranks slow". Bad fuel will cause misfire, but starter will still "crank fast" no matter what fuel. Now, "slow" may be relative if you are used to a 4 cylinder cranking. V8s starters crank slower than inline 4s. Also, how thick is your oil and how cold is it out there?
My 3.5 cranks rain or shine, hot or cold, and fires after a couple of turns, but I did change the battery in my 7 years of ownership. Bert

Yes, I'm used to V8 starters. At the time, the car was inside a heated shop and didn't start.

FWIW my 4.5 starts every time on one of the first 3 cyls it hits with the starter. And if it doesn't, something is wrong...
Even when it cranks SLOW AS HELL it'll still fire on the first cyl, or catch enough to make the next one hit faster and actually start.

in a heated shop, should turn as normal if the battery is up to snuff, guess it could be the actual starter.
Wish I had a heated garage right now....but that is another story
