Now a Fintail Owner!

On Saturday I bought a 1966 200 from the original owner's family. A fairly amazing time capsule car, orginally from Oregon, off the road for many years, and had a lot of work in 2006 to rehab the fuel and brake systems. I saw the car then, and posted about it.

Fintail to Die For

It's not running very well at the moment and needs a fair amount of additional work (carbs, suspension, steering, exhaust). I'm going to blog about it like I did on my 230SL.

Anyway, here are some pictures (gotta love those fins):

The interior looks absolutely mint. Beautiful.

I always liked the instrument cluster in these cars. Nice example. Good luck with it.

Gorgeous car!

I am very jealous!

...and now you can join in the MBCA 'Year of the Finback' celebrations

Did you know that the fins were actually tested in a wind tunnel and are effective not just for show?

Speaking from my own experience with my '60 220Sb, besides any aerodynamic effect they may have, for me the most usefull advantage of the fins is being able to see the rear corners of the car while backing up!
I'm expecting that a few minor repairs should make this one run like new.
Congratulations!

Happy Motoring, Mark

Chuck,
congrats, I owned one for several years, still own a 220Sb that I will be selling soon with its new Weber carbs and manifolds from Jam engineering. Got too much stuff and need to thin the herd.
You'll like this one, they are great!

we have the same car! but it's original engine was dead and swapped in a 2.0 M115 engine but same HP and little higher torque.

I wonder those plate lights mounted on the vertical bumpers.
