4-speed tranny into M110 carbbed motor: possible?

I got a 4-speed manual box from a donor 200 (W123), it's a one- piece all aluminum with slave cylinder and throw-out bearing attached, I got already the shifters, linkages, pedals and clutch and pressure plates, still have to look for fluid reservoir, master clutch cylinder and flywheel for M110. my W116 euro 280S has stock AT and I will convert it to manual in the near future.

The no. on the manual box is 716.210, I'm sure this will bolt up with existing flange but does this manual 'box will cope with 160 HP M110 carbed engine? considering this 'box is designed for 95 HP M115 and, when starting the conversion, what issues might arise (e.g. vibration, propeller length,etc..)

It should bolt right up. I believe the same trannies were used even if behind a v8. They're really rugged and durable.

It will do. Though you will need to get the front of the 200 driveshaft cut and rewelded to fit in place of the current 280 shaft. Also, you might find the shift rods are the wrong length because of the change to the length of the motor.

But that should be your only set of troubles.

wait a sec... "200", as in an M102 motor and not the older M115? The M102 has a very different bellhousing than the M110. The most telltail sign is the location of the starter on the opposite side of the block.

that 'box came from later version of M115 (115.038-10-******). It's a one-piece all aluminum housing, that's it.

If you are referring to the flywheel best to do a search about it. You have to be very careful regarding them.

A percentage of the 123 fw are balanced with the crank. Out of five vehicles I have been in contact with in which we moved fw from one crank to another one was not neutrally balanced.

The danger is significant enough though that I will never do it without checking what the fw from the crank I want to use is in terms of balance.

If you get it wrong you will have to pull the tranny and fw to correct it.
