advice please... possibly my first classic mercedes

hi,
ive been wanting a w108 for some time now, but for 450$ i would be buying it from a lady whos husband passed while he was restoring it. after he passed she started driving it with no oil. the engine seized, so it needs to be replaced (which i can and would be willing to do if the car model is worth the time). the interior is in good condition also.
i was wondering if this car is a good deal or not. if so, what other engines could i mount in it?
thanks

edit: i apologize its a 250 4 door.

If you don't need extensive frame work, it's a good simple car to start with, and you're living in the right climate for it

just a 250? no "s"? no "se" ? not too collectible.

also, w108 with stacked headlights is the look you want.

thanks guys! much appreciated...

i agree, the 108 is a beauty. maybe i should just hold out. i've even been collecting parts for a 108 as i see them in the junk yards. its hard to find a cheap one that isnt rotted out.

That looks like a 115, not a 108.
That said, it looks clean in the picture.

Yep, that's a W114. If you want a W108, then you need to be looking for one of these:

That looks like a very nice car for $450.00, if you are comfortable doing the motor, I would say you have nothing to lose.

Just a note though, in the second picture, the passenger side fender and headlight appear lower than the drivers side.

alabbasi,
is that your car? very nice! thats exactly what i want. yup.... i think im going to hold out on this car.
one more question... am i allowed to be in the vintage room if theres no need for me to be in here (other then to learn)?
because im getting a w108. soon, i hope.
if not ill have to settle with the grumpy guys on the w126 benzworld forum....everytime i ask a question in there i get scolded by someone.
have a good night all.

That was my car, I sold it about a year ago to a fellow who shipped it to Spain. The 250 is a nice car. My father owned one when they were new. It's the first car I remember.

W114's are excellent drivers. They are comfortable and very chuckable.

Chuckable? Ya gotta explain that one to me Al. To me, "very chuckable", means easily thrown away. I'm guessing you mean "nimble" as in, you can "chuck" it about in the curves.

Yep, that's exactly what I meant. Compared to my old 250CE, my W108 and W116 corner with the finesse of an elephant on roller skates.

Just remember to search for past answers to common issues, although I give newbies some latitude.
Make your questions as specific as possible, always include year and model.
Other than that - welcome, good luck on your search. Post in the wanted section - probably one of the guys or gals knows of one for sale
