I need a new/used windshield Fintail - W111.012 sedan

Hello Peaches,

The Emerald Bullet is getting very close to "useful". The major issue I have now is making the car water-proof. I need to replace the front and rear window gaskets that leak. The windshield is cracked.

I need a windshield for my 1962 220Sb which is a W111.012 sedan chassis. I believe that the windshields are the same for all of the fintail sedans, but not coupes. I know that I can buy a new windshield from Mercedes Classic Center for about $600.00. That is fair but way beyond my budgeted ability to pay. The gaskets are about $50.00 each.

Anybody have a windshield to sell or trade? Anybody know who might have this windshield in stock for sale cheap?

Thank you in advance!

Jeffrey

get a used windshield and get an OEM gasket, not a cheap one. That will double the price of the gasket and have it last an extra 20+ years. -CTH

Brian,

Which specific location did you buy from? Do you have a phone number and a part number? They are not located in Texas and shipping will be required.

Update:

Several Mygrantglass locations had the windshield I needed. The closest location that could ship the windshield to Houston, Texas was in Birmingham, Alabama.

Mygrantglass is a wholesaler that does not sell to the general public, no matter how enthusiastic we are. The vendor who they recommended here in Houston is called UNI-Glass. They received it and installed it the same day and let me watch and take pictures of the project. The price of the glass was higher than normal because shipping was added to the cost. The owner let me know that he plans to stock more Classic Mercedes glass that will be available at a lower price since shipping will be shared with a truckload of regular product. I spent $250.00 for a new windshield and $125.00 labor to install it with new gasket plus $125 for labor to remove and clean back window glass, clean up the window channel, and re-install rear window with new gasket. When I first heard the quote I thought $125 was expensive; after watching the work get done I felt like it was fair and worth every penny. I spent $500 on this project, the most that any one repair has cost. Stopping the rain from filling up the car with water is almost priceless.

The back involved more work than installing the windshield. The technician had to carefully cut the old rotten rubber, remove the trim, and clean up the edges on the old glass. It took three tries using the 3/8" rope to get the rear glass back in.

The gaskets are the URO brand. I was concerned about the fit and finish after reading some negative comments here on the forum. After the installation I can report that I am satisfied with the product and would buy URO gaskets again.

Frequently we bring our problems and needs to this forum. Often we forget to come back to the thread and report the solutions and resolutions to the original problem. So I decided to make a point of going back over my posts of late and plugging in my experience in the hope that I can give something back to the Forum that helped me.

I am always grateful for your experience, wisdom and goodwill. Thanks again to Bwostosh for telling me where he got his glass.
