Some play in steering arm relay '62 W111
Hi all,
the other day I checked the play in the steering linkages and noted that the steering arm relay has some play on the lower part of the shaft. EPC doesn't show any bushing to be replaced there for the 111021 model (later models are different) but there is a repair kit for the W113 230 SL with a bushing which is a 111 part number (111 460 00 50). By running the number into EPC it also applies to the 111021. I would like to know what is involved before ordering that repair kit: is there some machining required to fit what looks to be a brass bushing where there is none originally? If yes, is the machining required on the shaft or on the part welded in the firewall? Thanks! |

That may be the "hard" bushing on the early model, check to see if there is a grease fitting and pump it up. if grease comes out of the hole in the frame rail that is the early one, later ones switched to the replaceable non-grease version.

It's an early version with a grease nipple. I filled it with grease but there's still a lot of play

I had a lot of play in my 1962 220Sb. I installed a new set of coupler bushings and it is tight now. I attached a photo of the bushings in a recent thread about changing the bushings. They cost $5.39.

Any news? Did you fix the play in your steering? Have you checked the coupler bushings?
