M110 TBI Conversion - Pictures

Guys, for a few months i have stalled on this project, today i did a mock up of the TBI 2 BBL unit on the intake manifold, seems to me that i will not fit due to the width of the TPS and the IAC.

Has anyone on the forum done this job. A few years ago i read about Mike doing a TBI job on a another plataform.

Can it be turned sideways? (granted, I'm sure you already tried to). I'm interested in this mod, so I'll follow this thread for sure!

Thumbs up

Do you have enough hood room to add a spacer? Carb spacers come in up to 2" variety from what I have seen

Remember, you're going from a 4bbl to a 2bbl.

Space

Well, maybe with a 2 inches space it might fit, but the problem is sideways, with the connector it will be like another quarter inch wider. When i receive the adapter place i will know for sure.

What CFM is that TBI ? I have put one on a Mopar 225 slant six and it was way too much for it. It ran out of vacuum at full throttle... LOL! mine was the bigger of the two versions that holley made
The M110 is only 2.8 liters and is a small engine but can rev happily beyond 7000 RPM.
I also found that the driver circuits in the Holley ECU are crap and after i burnt the second lot out,I rid of it and installed a 350 dual Bbl Holley.

Holley makes a conversion plate to go from a 4BBL carb mount to the 2BBL TBI. The part number is posted on my M115 TBI conversion, I believe. I can look it up later today if you need it.

The IAC is no big deal and it is only used until the engine reaches operating temperature. Remove it, install a remote IAC unit and add a fast idle solenoid in line for the operation of A/C if needed.

The TPS housing can be trimmed, the connection prongs bent up and new connectors installed. I did this on my M115 and my M117 conversions.

The TPS can be eliminated altogether if you go through the hassle of tuning the F/A tables manually. The TPS is concerned with adding fuel during acceleration and doesn't affect the idle or cruise. I believe GM also has a TPS with an elbow connection as opposed to the straight connection you have.

GM used only 3 different 2BBL TBI units. The one used on their 2.8L (rare), one used for everything else and one used on their "performance" engines. The only difference between the last two was the size of the venturi. One was 13/16" and the other was 7/8". Different engine requirements were satisfied by minor changes in the injector size and re-mapping of the F/A mixtures.

Ron, that 225 slant six was not an OHC engine and it's design was for maximum torque at lower end revs. The M110 DOHC hemispherical chamber engine was made to pull that air at high rpms.

MikeD Thanks, its adapter plate 17-45 if i remeber correctly, only one more concern with the IAC, at the present moment the valve is open even if plug it in the outside, it will allow air to pass, should i block the internal passage as well?

The TBI Unit i am using its not a holley, but a GM made by rochester, came up from 4.3L Astro Van

17-41 for a "spread bore" is what I have. The "square bore" (17-45) will probably work.

Mike D, have you been able to test the TBI unit into the manifold?

Didn't work on the M110 this weekend. I got involved with the M117 Megasquirt. Created some problems and am trying to get them sorted out.

Sigh, when will I learn? If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

it's just another variation of the old holley projection and insanely expensive. You could buy a good Kjet system and install it cheaper than that thing ,plud have the donor car in cluded. i think they are close to $1800 .

On these the float adj. is crucial there are bolt with a screws on top of bowl remove measure do this to the other side on double pumper, And the one's made for benz's, the float is adj. in middle of carb. easyer to adj.
