Hello,
Iīm searching for the dash wood trim above the steering wheel of an Mercedes Benz W108 1972 without a sunroof switch and a hole for a rectangular hazard switch. Could anyone help me? greetings from Germany Jan Reckhenrich |
Yikes, I would think that will be a tough one. You might post a WTB in the Parts For Sale section. A picture of what you're looking for would also help. Welcome aboard to Pelican.

The problem is, that this parts from the european cars got a round hazard knob and only the later US versions got an rectanguar hazard knob. So I would be very happy to found help here. What I need is this http://www11.pic-upload.de/07.04.15/iadysdba9f7n.jpg |
Somebody posted a few months ago that they were parting out a ~71-72. I got the wood that is under the windshield form him.
Email me and I can send you his email. Mine is f124ss AT yahoo DOT com |
i actually have a complete second dash i bought just for the wood trim, i may be willing to part with that piece as the one in my car is in good shape as well.
i'm not sure about the rectangular hazard switch, you might have to show me? |
Jan,
Have you considered refinishing your existing piece, or is it beyond salvage? I just restored mine and it looks amazing. Mercedes used high quality wood, I'd be surprised if yours is beyond salvage. |
@craftysince86
here is a better picture of the hazard switch @mosu mine has an polyster paint, which you couldnīt get of, only by using heat an thats very problematic. the normal wood, got normal paint which you can get off with paint remover, but that doesnīt work with polyester paint. http://www11.pic-upload.de/15.04.15/mw55qdcil87o.jpg |
Have you thought about replacing the whole thing with the easier to find (esp in Germany) round switch? That's what I would do if I could not find it.

@Tomguy
if it was easy I would do it, but it isnīt only the switch. You have to fix the wiring and there is a hole in the metal behind the wood for the rectangular switch, and the position of the roung switch is lightly left from this postion, so that you canīt fasten the switch without welding some metal there. And refinishing my wood is not possible because it is polyester paint. The most W108 got a normal paint but mine got the polyester paint, which only can get off by heating it, and thatīs very problematic. Here is a picture of how it looks http://www11.pic-upload.de/15.04.15/aosf747fnedz.jpg http://www.pic-upload.de/view-267393...alter.jpg.html |

...if you got a normal paint, you can use a paint remover to get the clear paint of. Here is what I did with the door wood trim. 1. put paint remover on it http://www11.pic-upload.de/23.04.15/d9ren22rxfhh.jpg 2. scratch it of http://www11.pic-upload.de/23.04.15/rql8pe34xmoa.jpg 3. get new wood paint on it http://www11.pic-upload.de/23.04.15/xk7lkf6hprbd.jpg 4. paint it with boat paint http://www11.pic-upload.de/23.04.15/m12y5cd12k7n.jpg http://www11.pic-upload.de/23.04.15/vljy4qlqgspv.jpg 5. put it back in the car and feel good :D http://www11.pic-upload.de/23.04.15/59cftc1rruq8.jpg @DieselPaul that "wood" be great if you got this part :D |
