Who Knows About Mufflers?

The latest thing to rust-out on my '70 280sel six cylinder is the muffler. The original exhaust pipes were replaced by stainless steel, but the dual pipes were combined into one at the header and now it's custom from there on back.

So I have a mongrel system. The old muffler had some numbers on it (H8C 1102), but googling it does not bring up anything. The inlet is 2-1/8 inches O.D, 2 inches I.D. as near as I can tell as it was rusted off. This was female to the pipe. Nether the inlet or outlet are concentric to the round shape of the muffler as a whole. The donut hangers were welded on.

Does anyone know what brand this muffler is or how to search for a replacement?

Thanks for your help.

Is it the rear muffler? I saw one on Ebay a few days ago.

Over on benzworld, he posted that he is trying to find a muffler that would be compatible with his system. Who Knows About Mufflers? - Mercedes-Benz Forum
I think he is looking for another "h8C 1102" despite the previous one rotting off the car.

One of the big names in exhaust is Walker ( NAPA exhaust is walker ) , have a look in their universal muffler catalog. Also try AP . WALKERŪ EXHAUST SYSTEMS :: World Class Exhaust Solutions From An Industry Leader and apexhaust.com

There are a lot of house branded muffler shop exhaust parts so that # could be from anyone. ( Walker is typically 5 digits and no letters )

Stock?

In case you'd consider going back to the original two-in, two-out muffler I have a new one. I needed one for my car and I ended up getting two.
