Kuhlmeister air conditioning
greeting, I'm currently restoring and upgrading a Kuhlmeister ac unit for a w111 sedan to R134 refrigerant. I've have the condenser, receiver dryer, and compressor sorted out. I'm looking for an expansion valve with the proper flare fittings for R134. Any ideas? I've tried contacting Bud's Benz but after 2wks they have yet to respond.

I have been through this. I never did find a correct expansion valve. I just went with the original R-12 which you can still buy after taking an online test to pick up a license to buy it.
I did this and suddenly found I had a lot of friends that needed R-12. I told them they would have to take the test themselves, which caused grumbling, but they did and found if you are mechanical enough to install an A/C you will nt have any trouble with the test. Those units are actually Thermoking units made in Dallas. So they were engineered to deal with the Texas heat. You can also go nuts and install a rear, or trunk mounted, unit which were normally made by ARA in Arlington, Texas. I have see 111s with units under the dash and in the trunk. Make sure to get new hoses. If you go with 134 it runs at a higher pressure and can blow out the older lines. I went through a number of them before I finally figured this out. Hopefully this info helps. |
