Jacking up engine for motor mounts- 1975 Mercedes 240d w115

I am in the process of replacing my engine mounts. I have the car on two ramps and am jacking the car up on one side of the oil pan. I unable to just lift the right side of the engine without lifting up the entire car. I managed to rig up a jack stand post/floor jack to the motor mount arm (see pic)

and was able to get the passenger side motor mount out and replaced.

I have been unable to align the hole in the mount since the only way I can move the engine is through the jack stand mod which is directing the motor mount arm to the posterior of the car.

Currently I have the rear transmission mount losened.

Any suggestions on how to move the engine around easier?

I'd put an appropriately sized 2x on the jack and position it under the oil pan. Raise it enough to allow out to install the new mounts on the arms that attach to the motor. Ease the jack down slowly and start/fasten one side at at time.

Put jack stands under the car for safety supports in addition to the ramps, don't rely only on the ramps.

Try what Jim recommends after safely blocking up the car, it should work. Favor the forward most part of the pan/engine and spread the load of the jack with the 2 x 4/6?

Are there small shocks attached to the mount bracket? Whole car should not be coming up. Remove all fasteners holding it from the top.

Start with all mount bolts loose. Get a large drift to insert in the holes and wiggle things around as necessary to align the holes. Also can jack under oil pan too.

It appears that the skid guard under the oil pan is attached to the frame.

Ive only found write up on w123 skid guard install. Anybody have experience with w115 removal? It appear that the rear of the pan is riveted and there are two bolts on the front of the car attached to the frame.

It's nice that you have that skid guard! There is a third bolt in the rear that attaches the guard to the subframe.

I happen to have a photo of the guard loose from the car:

Gmod220! You are an angel. I was about to unscrew some nuts that had nothing to do with the plate. Thanks for saving me some time. I'll be back working on this Friday night or Saturday. I'll update when I have succeeded.

Glad I could help.

Those guards for W115/W114 (and also 107?) are kinda rare.
