Lowering 69 230

What is avaliable out there for lowering of 114 body?

What are my options untill I have the cash to get airbags!

Cut springs? if so how many turns can I cut safely?

Thanks

Mario

MBs don't look right lowered (IMHO, few cars do). The lines of a late '60s Impala look faster close to the ground. But a vintage w108/115 is a box _ and dropping it will do nothing to accentuate its appeal. My $.02.

Cut the springs! No way!

I don't modify my benz but I know for my BMW if you cut the springs it just destroys your shocks and struts. I would never cut the springs. If you lower the car you will need stiffer springs to keep from bottoming out and you will most likely need matched shocks and struts.

Not to mention that cutting springs is illegal and that a car with cut springs won't pass inspection (that is, if the shop notices... but on a car like that they probably would). Remember, your Mercedes has he perfect length springs with the perfect compression ratings to give the perfect ride, matched with perfect shocks and suspension. You'd dfinetly need a stiffer spring if you're going to get a smaller one. And new shocks with stiffer rates as well. And you might even need new a-arms and other stuff. If you want a lowered vehicle, get a Honda and rice it, don't rice your Benz!

I know all the disadvantages with the CUT SRING mod...I had a car that had cut springs and I didnt mind it

I found good deal on air ride suspension kit for the car tho so I might go that way!

Dana B...everyone has different taste when it comes to lowered cars...if I wanted an impala I would get it...everyone does the same thing thesedays...do something different for once is what I stand behind

Thanks for the imput guys

Mslipac, While it may not be my bag, good luck on your lowering project.

it can't be that hard. Here in australia I can get custom made springs for my car for around $500AUD (about $250US). I'm all for originality, but a simple 1inch lowering isn't really going to change much, and I think it will make it look a little more classy.

When you think about it, a '57 chebbie is a box, and I have seen some nice ones lowered.

I was considering doing the exact same thing with my '69 230 (Using air bags as opposed to hydros), but then I realized how much it's going to cost me just to fix the car, so that kind of made me reconsider. Even so, good luck and maybe you can drop me a few hints on how the mod went, prices I can expect, shops, the final look, etc...

airbag kit goes around $1000 usd + $150 for airbag adaptors from www.masterimagecustoms.com

and body restauration will cost me around $600 just the supplies I bought including paint job so that's not too bad

Wire wheels and tires that's another $1500
